Stöðvarfjörður is a small village in the Eastfjords, surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountains in Iceland. I was lucky to be there on a beautiful sunny day a few weeks ago and managed to catch this 360° panorama of the village and it´s surroundings.
Nearby places: Fáskrúðsfjörður, Eskifjörður, Egilsstaðir, Berufjörður-Öxi
Stöðvarfjörður is where you can find one of my favorite museums in Iceland, Steinasafn Petru Stöðvarfirði / Petras Stone collection Stöðvarfirði, a rock collection that was started by the late Petra, who hiked these mountains all her life to look for rocks for her collection. Even though Petra invited thousands of guests to view her collection every year, she didn´t like the attention that her life work had brought upon her. In 1995 the then president of Iceland, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, decorated Petra for her mineral collection, and on that occasion she was invited to a special dinner at Bessastaðir (the presidential residence), but Petra simply answered when asked: \"No thank you.\" Her argument was simple: \"I got this decoration for my stones and not for myself. It was the stones that were decorated!\" After some persuasion from her family and friends she finally decided to go, and had a lovely time.
